The post-holder will provide a high quality "shop floor" clinical presence, together with high standards of education, training, research and audit.


The post holder will work in close co-operation with nursing, managerial and medical colleagues to provide high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Post holders will be based in the Children Emergency Department (ChED).

Job responsibilities


Patient care: Provide high-quality medical care to children and young people presenting to the Children Emergency Department (CHED).

Assessment and Management-Assess and manage children with a wide range of acute band surgical conditions.

Decision making- Make timely and effective decisions regarding children care, including diagnosis, treatment and disposition.

Clinical leadership in the delivery of high quality emergency care.

Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting to the CHeD.

Play active role in maintaining the four hour target for emergency access.

Ensuring the appropriate referral of patients to inpatient specialties or tertiary centres.

Liaison with clinicians and managers within and outside of the ED to address issues arising that affect the service.

Teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including assessments.

Audit, research and quality assurance processes.

Maintaining the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust.

Communication with local general practitioners and other stakeholders.

To develop professionally and take part in all service development.

To engage in personal development and appraisal processes - to achieve revalidation with the GMC.
